Stand in silent tribute for that period of time
Greet the creators of this painting

The blazing fire has gone out
Yet the souls of the deceased under the fire---
Are still crying because of pain

The fire is burning at the Tongyuan Gate and in the six-five big tunnel
The fire is lightening all burnable things
As well as engorging the eyes in the engine room
To make them swell with bestial redness

The serpents and scorpions are spitting poisonous fire
Steel knifes and forks are turning over the underground earth
To bury us and turn our homes
Into our tombs

No way to flee. Those who are running in the front
Might die sooner---while only if we are hung behind
We will be stumbled by our own timeworn long garments

No way to flee. Our hair
Has been burned into billowing dense smoke. The diving iron bird
Is going to tackle our hair and throw us
Into death. The high temperature
Is going to thaw our bones
To fertilize the “Happy Land of Kingcraft”

The bomb splinters that can never be taken out of modern Chinese history
The pain and shame that will be forever in our hearts for generations
The scars that can never be healed up on our faces
Too miserable to see, too miserable to see
A glimpse of them will make you remember for 1000 years
